There’s no denying that video games are becoming extremely popular as each year goes by, and it’s a lot more common to see a child with a tablet in their hand playing something on it whenever you go outside. Now, according to some people of the older generations, this is considered to be a pretty bad thing, and they are not very wrong.

However, we tend to have a slightly different opinion on all this, and we think that if you know-how, video games can be a child’s best friend when it comes to brain development and overall education. How’s that possible? Read until the end in order to find out.

Why are video games so popular?

Video games are considered to be one of the best ways to relax after a hard day of work, or in the case of a child, after a day of school or doing homework. The reason they’re so popular is that they are like movies, except you have the ability to choose the fate of your character, which is something that movies don’t really offer you as a viewer.

There are tons of different video game genres, and you can most definitely find the right one for you even if you have a very specific taste. Now, there are quite a few popular video games that you probably know about, due to the spectacular marketing the companies have, such as Fortnite and Minecraft, and if you’ve heard about them, chances are that your kids already played them.

As a parent, you might be thinking that playing video games is a waste of time, and instead of doing that, your child is supposed to read a book or do something else that is more “productive”. That’s not entirely true, and let us explain why.

Not many parents know this because they haven’t tried playing the actual game, but video games put you in pretty difficult situations all the time, and those situations require pretty good decision-making skills in order to get the best outcome. By constantly being placed in such scenarios, your child is using most of their brainpower in order to find the best thing to do.

By constantly doing this, they are developing a much better ability to think and make decisions while under pressure. If you think that this isn’t crucial for growing into an intelligent individual, you might be quite wrong.

Let’s take a look at some of the other things that your child can do if they spend their time not playing video games. One option is watching cartoons, which in our honest opinion are a much bigger waste of time, and another option is playing outside, which is a great option but isn’t really connected with playing games whatsoever.

A child has tons of free time, and if you as a parent manage to teach them that there should be e balance between the real and the virtual world, you’ll have a much clearer head and a lot fewer problems. This takes us right into the next part, which is time spent playing video games.

How many hours of playing is recommended?

Although most of those reports saying that “more than one hour per day in front of the computer is dangerous” are completely false, your child should still know the balance between enough and too much.

Playing video games is something that is scientifically proven to enhance the thinking power of an individual, there should be a balance in the number of hours spent playing. Too much of a good thing makes a bad thing, and that’s an old saying which applies to this as well.

Depending on how much chores and responsibilities your child has, you as a parent should dictate the hours that they’re allowed to spend in front of their computer. If you notice that your kid is not studying enough, or not performing as they should be at school, reduce the hours. If you see that there’s a good balance between studying and playing, leave them be.

Either way, more than four hours of playing per day is not really recommended, but that’s more than enough for your child to have some fun in-between school days. If you see that a lot of time is being spent on upgrading a virtual character in the game, you might want to consider buying a character boost service from

This way you will end up paying just a few bucks but your child will not spend months in front of the computer trying to improve their character in the video game they’re playing. This can often be the case if they are playing games such as World of Warcraft or Destiny 2.

Know if your child is a video game prodigy

Be open and communicate with your child about the games they play and the way they play them. Video games are already surpassing many sports in terms of money being won at tournaments, and in most countries, eSports is something that is being taught in school.

You can live a very luxurious life if you are good at a video game, so if you kid has a dream to become a professional player, and you see that they’re having success at doing this, instead of forbidding them to play, motivate them to find the perfect balance and allow them to chase their dream.

You as a parent might not be very familiar with this, but there are tons of professional gamers making millions per month from tournaments or from streaming on platforms such as If you notice that your child has the potential, don’t take that away from them.

It’s up to you to teach them about the importance of being in a perfect balance with the real and the virtual world, but don’t do this in a way that will make them feel like they’re doing everything wrong. Video games can be very beneficial if played the right way.
