Whether it is Valentine, a regular Thursday, or an opportunity of Netflix and chill, teen romance movies are a perfect way to spend an evening with your significant other or in a company of friends. Almost invariably, they have a happy ending and people who should get together end up together and live happily ever after. Come to think of it, that isn’t too much to ask from life, but unfortunately, not all of us get a happy ending we deserve. But at least we have movies to sheer us up. The Princess Diaries
Almost all girls want to be princesses, but Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) gets to become one when she discovers she is ah near to the throne of Genovia, a made-up European country. Considering she is just 15, she will need all the help she can get and she recruits her friends Lilly and Michael to aid her in her adventure. There are of course some bad people involved and plenty of handsome boys vying for the hand of a future queen. Talk about a perfect sweet sixteen birthday present.
A Cinderella Story
A timeless classic, A Cinderella Story is based on a fairytale we all know and love. Directed by Mark Rosman and starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray, the movie follows the original story almost to the letter. An evil stepmother and her horrible daughters, a beautiful, yet modest girl falling in love in a prince, and a helping godmother. OK, the prince is actually the most handsome jock in the school, but that’s beside the point.
She’s The Man
A girl pretending to be a boy is a guaranteed way of creating chaos and confusion resulting in some hilarious scenes, but this movie also has a young Channing Tatum. That is all.
She’s All That
Many girls, and quite a few boys, who grew up in the 1990s, still feel butterflies in their tummies when they remember Freddie Prinze Jr. In She’s All That, he is paired with Rachael Leigh Cook, in a story of an ugly duckling transformed into a beautiful swan. Rachael plays Laney Boggs, the most unattractive girl in the school. During the movie, she transforms into a prom queen. The movie is directed by Robert Iscove.
The Edge Of Seventeen
Life in high school is incredibly hard, and Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld) has to deal with her brother dating her best friends, on top of all her innate awkwardness. Her romantic life is also suffering, as she is desperate for a boy to notice her. The trouble is that he has a reputation of sorts and she isn’t sure that she likes that as well. In the end, it all ends well and she finds love. That doesn’t happen always in real life, but that is why we watch movies.
